Artists We Lost In 2011

Corey Smoot as Flattus Maximus of Gwar

So who do you include in lists like this? Do you include someone who made guitars that the artists played? How far back do you go? Do I include artists like Jerry Leiber,  who died at 78 from cardiopulmonary failure?  He wasn't the band, but the actual songwriter behind such classics like "Stand By Me", "Hound Dog", "Jailhouse Rock", "Kansas City". What would Rock and Metal be without those songs? What about all the unknown local musicians? They may never had made it to the national spotlight, but their deaths are important to the people who loved them. Well, so I had to narrow it down to some rules. My rules are that the artist had to have been a member who toured and recorded with a band that is big enough to have people in every state care about their music. They have to have actually released cd's or albums at least nationally. So sorry to have left out your favorite artist, but if I didn't limit the list somehow it would be so long that no one would even read through it.

If you think an artist that died within the year of 2011, was relevant enough to be on this list, and is not, please let us know in the comments. Please keep in mind that Ronnie James Dio died on May 16, 2010 and Dimebag was almost a decade ago. This is a list of people lost within 2011.
