In the build up to the release of "She", songwriter/keyboard player/singer Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Arena) alongside singer Agnieszka Swita performed around 30 concerts in countries such as England, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Canada. "Journey's End." features a collection of moments from these performances. "Aggravation" (1991) was a record that revealed Treponem Pal's powerful, sensitive and tribal elements. The band focused on the vision of enlarging industrial's scope rather than narrowing it to one style that could be easily described ... or dismissed. This time the mixing was made by Roli Mosiman from Swans. The industrial scene was at that time fully in bloom – the genre gained the proper respect not only in Europe, but also across the Atlantic, where bands from Chicago’s Wax Trax label – Front Line Assembly and KMFDM – got extremely popular. The international media also begun noticing Treponem Pal – a band previously associated only with the underground scene. The attention was caused mainly by the excellent remix of Kraftwerk’s “Radioactivity”. Asked back then about choosing this track, which is totally different from the rest of the compositions on “Aggravation”, Marco Neves commented: “I like the contrast. That’s why we’ve done this song. It’s a real contrast to Treponem Pal. Back then industrial metal was just starting to grow, however the genre's turning point was close - groups such as Skinny Puppy and Front 242 begun aggressively marking their presence on the scene. You might say that Treponem Pal emerged in a time that was groundbreaking for the genre - for it was 1988 when Ministry's "Land of Rape and Honey" was released. It was also this year the French band's line-up got solidified and featured: Michael Bassin (guitar), Marco Neves (vocals), David Lebrun (drums) and Alain Fornasari (bass). Their self-titled debut arrived in 1988 on Roadracer and Treponem Pal frontman Marco explained his vision for the band as a mix of industrial influences (Einsturzende Neubauten, The Swans, Test Department), electronics (DAF, Kraftwerk) and even tribal drumming. In the late 80's Treponem Pal transcended its roots and toured Europe for two years with The Young Gods and Prong, developing a mad following along the way. The early 90's were spearheaded by Wax Trax!, the Chicago label which gave the world KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, Meat Beat Manifesto, Ministry, and many others. Their style sharply influenced the hard rock and metal scene, which suffered the last jolts of bland 80's rock. 1991 was also the year of "Aggravation", a record that revealed Treponem Pal's powerful, sensitive and tribal elements. The band focused on the vision of enlarging industrial's scope rather than narrowing it to one style that could be easily described ... or dismissed. In 1992 the band toured with Scorn, Godflesh, Pitch Shifter, and during Lollapalooza, Michel Bassin performed as Ministry's guitarist and Marco was a guest singer for their live set. In 1993, Franz Treichler of The Young Gods produced the critically acclaimed "Excess and Overdrive", which featured the club hit "Pushing You Too Far". With the addition of a new bassist, Treponem Pal signed with Mercury/PolyGram in 1996. Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM was chosen as a producer and the album was recorded in Seattle at Bad Animals Studio. The sonic connection between Treponem Pal and KMFDM is clear, and Michel's turbulent guitar work also appears on the upcoming KMFDM album. "Higher" presents the band's view of music at the end of the century, a sound that unites technology, power, wisdom and groove. The band also pays sly homage to their electronic roots with Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity," and offers a twisted version of Lipps Inc.'s "Funkytown." 1999 marks the beginning of a long downtime for Treponem Pal. After 15 years of intense band life, the group feels the urge to take a break. 2006, the beast is back! Starting with a clean slate, Marco Neves is more determined than ever to challenge and storm the French industrial rock scene where it all began. The goal is set to revive the energy of the early recordings, adding an electronic touch along with years of wisdom. He soon brings into the fold his longtime partner Didier B, the only remaining band member still standing from the original line-up, others having pursued different musical interests or no musical interests at all, to write new material. Franck Tomse steps in for the recording of guitars with Marco's guidance. At the end of 2006, a demo is finalized and Franck departs the project, unavailable for upcoming Treponem Pal activities. In early 2007 the line-up got completed and the band got busy gathering positive vibes and preparing the new sound bomb, joined by Ted Parsons on drums (Swans, Prong, Godflesh, Jesu) and Paul Raven on bass (Killing Joke, Prong, Ministry). Treponem Pal has returned with a new album released in March 2008, entitled "Weird Machine". In 2007 Metal Mind Productions released a box entitled “Furytales” containing the remastered versions of 3 studio albums (“Treponem Pal”, “Excess and Overdrive”, “Aggravation”) bootleg "Live Europe 1992" plus a DVD “Live in Europe” with video clips and live tracks. The frontmen will trade off playing solo sets of their own songs as well as collaborating on each others material. Gabel is launching the tour in support of his upcoming seven-song solo EP, entitled "Heart Burns," which will be released on CD, digitally and on vinyl by Sire Records on October 28th. Inspired by the country's current political and cultural landscape, Gabel began to write new songs in January. Due to the topical and timely subject matter, he wanted to release them around the upcoming Presidential election. The centerpiece of the EP is "Anna Is A Stool Pigeon," which Gabel wrote after reading about environmental activist Eric McDavid (www.supporteric.org) who was convicted in 2007 of conspiring to use explosives to damage corporate and government property after being implicated by an undercover FBI informant who posed as an activist. McDavid's defense has argued that he was the victim of entrapment. He currently faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. "What struck me most about the story was a sense of familiarity," Gabel says. "I know the scene he was a part of, I used to be a part of it myself. I've thought the same thoughts, talked the same talk. I've hung out with the same people, gone to similar protests. If Eric could have become the target of an FBI sting operation, then so could I. This could have been me." "Heart Burns" was recorded late August in Los Angeles on a short two week break in between Against Me! tours. Gabel co-produced the EP along with Billy Bush, while Butch Vig executive produced. The EP contains several guest appearances including Chuck Ragan and Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio). Gabel's solo tour will begin once Against Me! complete their upcoming U.S. tour with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, which begins on October 1st. Against Me! have been touring non-stop in support of their current album, the Butch Vig-produced "New Wave," which was released by Sire Records in July 2007. Called "the most invigorating, zeitgeist-capturing rock album in years" by Spin Magazine, "New Wave" was named the magazine's "Album of the Year," and also appeared in the Top 10 on Rolling Stone, Blender, and MTV.com's year-end "Best Album" lists. The band was formed by Piotr Luczyk (guitar) in 1979. Fascination with music of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath shaped the style of the band and after 2 years of searching for a Polish equivalent of David Coverdale, KAT finally found a vocalist - Roman Kostrzewski. The following two years were a time of evolution for the band’s style, which bore all the signs of a revolution on the Polish scene. From a rather conservative hard rock approach the group turned to sounds comparable to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, just to level up the tempo and radicalize their sound, descending into areas which a few years later were to be called thrash metal. In a short time KAT received a well-deserved acclaim as one of the most spectacular groups in the history of Polish rock. Each of their shows turned into a unique spectacle. After a series of shows on the biggest stages in the country, someone finally came up with the idea to record and release these performances. The album, released in 1987 by Poljazz, was entitled "38 minuts of life". The material for this release was recorded in Katowice’s Spodek when Kat performed twice as a support band for Metallica who at that time promoted the album “Master of Puppets”. During these shows, Kat revealed a hint of their new material and presented the fans a few songs from their upcoming album. The tracks were greeted more than enthusiastically. The album "Oddech wymarand#322;ych and#347;wiatów" laid on the shelf for almost two years and… the band definitely wasn’t disappointed by that fact. They patiently waited for their turn. “This was how things worked back then. First you recorded the album and the moment of its release depended on various factors, I mean we were still stuck in communism. I’m very proud of the fact that “Oddech wymarand#322;ych and#347;wiatów was released at all.” – says the guitarist. ”Oddech wymarand#322;ych and#347;wiatów” is not without a reason considered by many Kat’s opus magnum and one of the most important albums in the history of Polish metal. They touched upon many fascinating subjects, including the link between Quiron's days with COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN, playing with DEICIDE and what makes ORDER OF ENNEAD stand apart from most typical death/black metal bands: "TOTD: Lyrically, ORDER OF ENNEAD seem a bit more atypical than your usual black/death metal affair, more introspective and personal (i.e. “As Long As I Have Myself I Am Not Alone” and “Introspection And The Loss Of Denial”)-what was the aim? Going against the grain lyrically? KQ: I’ve always touched on those topics. In COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN I wrote “Longing for Clarity” and “Acceptance in Silence”. With ORDER OF ENNEAD, it’s just more so. Black metal tends to be about Satan and death metal about the grotesque. That’s not me. You should write about what you know and I know about myself and want to know more about the human journey.
