Watain Frontman Comments On Upcoming Decibel Tour

As previously announced, Swedish black metal miscreants WATAIN will take part in the inaugural Decibel Magazine Tour alongside Behemoth, The Devil’s Blood and In Solitude. The live ceremonies will begin on April 11 in Ohio and bloody 26 stages including a stop in Oklahoma City where the trek will merge with the U.S. Torture Tour featuring Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Abysmal Dawn, and Arkaik for an evening of audio devastation.

Pleased to take part in the event, frontman Erik Danielsson: “We were originally meant to spend this year in the shadows, focusing inwards and on the new material we have compiled during the years since Lawless Darkness was released. This tour however was a bit too good to say no to. It is so seldom these days that someone actually managed to put together a descent tour package, which Decibel sure has managed to do this time. A ‘clash of the titans’ indeed! And considering the other bands on the tour, I can just imagine our management and the promotors biting their fingernails in anxiety and horror, waiting for the first arson or murder report from the road. Touring the States is always inspirational; there is always lots of emotion, anger, debauchery, decadence and a general feeling of lawlessness in the air, so I am sure this tour will nourish the writing process to a certain extent as well. A rich and fertile foundation of harsh physical and emotional experience has always played a big role in WATAIN writing new material, and this tour will for sure contribute to that. We will aim to make it interesting and memorable enough to do so.”

WATAIN released the award-winning Lawless Darkness  full-length via Season Of Mist on June 7, 2010. The record earned critical accolades internationally including a Grammis win -- the Swedish equivalent to the U.S. Grammy Awards -- in the category of "Best Hard Rock Band." In addition, the album won #1 Album Of The Year status in Close Up and Sweden Rock Magazines, #2 Album Of The Year in Decibel Magazine and #1 Band Of The Year in Terrorizer’s Readers Poll.

“Darkthrone were once ‘for all the evil in man,’ but WATAIN turn good men evil.” – Decibel

“…Lawless Darkness delivers all the pure kvlt evilness you could possibly want.” – Outburn

“Once again, WATAIN – combustible, ravenous and unrelenting – achieve a magical balance where all-consuming darkness (chaos) and brightly burning melody (refinement) wed to achieve the sublime (enlightenment).” – Terrorizer

“A WATAIN show is a religious ceremony, a time for the band to pay homage to their Gods. The theatrics and evil imagery, the dousing of themselves in (real) animal blood, and all of [Erik] Danielsson’s philosophies on rejecting humanity for nothingness is their way of grasping at their own liberation” — Portland Mercury

“Black metal bands seem to take pride in obfuscation: devising incomprehensible logos, concealing their faces with corpsepaint, releasing tiny-edition cassette tapes you can’t find even in the most obscurity-worshipping record shops. In a more strictly musical sense that means that you rarely find black-metal bands that play like WATAIN —heavy and dense but crisply defined. These scarily earnest Swedes summon a convincingly menacing thunder that doesn’t blur out of focus…” — The Chicago Reader

Decibel Magazine Tour Line Up Announced

Blackened clouds are gathering overhead, and it's all Decibel's fault. North America's premier heavy metal magazine is launching the maiden edition of its annual earth-scorching tour this April. The inaugural Decibel Magazine Tour will feature not just the long-awaited stateside return of Polish blackened death metal overlords Behemoth, but support from Swedish black metal provocateurs Watain, Dutch prog mystics The Devil's Blood and Swedish old-school occultists In Solitude.

Beginning in April and laying waste through a gargantuan 26-date run, the Decibel Magazine Tour (presented by Metal Blade Records, IndieMerchStore.com, FYE, ESP Guitars and Good Fight Entertainment) not only offers four diverse European artists hand-picked by the magazine, but doubles as Behemoth's first U.S. tour since vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski's well-documented battle with — and triumph over — leukemia.

Gruesome visual evidence of this tour package is forthcoming: We went all the way to Sweden to capture the frontmen and women of all four bands for our special Decibel Magazine Tour cover story, streeting in April. "Considering the fact that we'll be sharing the stage with the most evil and uncompromising bands around — Watain, The Devil's Blood and In Solitude — this already makes it a legendary bill that you can't miss out on!" promises Nergal. "Watch out. We won't show up—we will ARRIVE with all the strength and might!"

"Part of Decibel's mission is to push the boundaries of what a metal publication is capable of doing," adds Decibel editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian, the tour's principal curator. "By bringing bands like Watain, The Devil's Blood and In Solitude to larger stages in the U.S., we create an additional vehicle to help raise their profiles. It's another way to infect the mainstream with the power of the underground."

It only makes sense that Decibel would present a tour package with a sense of integrity, purpose and history. "It is a joint force of artistic adversity and sinister creativity," assures Watain frontman Erik Danielsson, "which makes me think of the glorious days when bands like Venom, Metallica, Exodus and Slayer toured together like a great middle finger raised towards their sheep-minded contemporaries."

Excited yet? Well, here's an early opportunity to score a great deal AND avoid standing in line. Fifteen premium packages are available in each market that include your ticket to the show, a tour T-shirt, a tour poster and a super-exclusive "Skip The Line" pass to move you to the front when doors open. The price of this package is less than you would spend on a ticket and a tour shirt at the show! More details, including tour dates, venues and ticket info will be announced at www.decibelmagazinetour.com on January 24th. Every ticket purchased through Top Spin will come with a commemorative laminate, and all fans that purchase their ticket through Top Spin will be entered to win an ESP Guitar.

Behemoth: First Shows Sold Out!

Poland's kings of blackened death metal, BEHEMOTH, recently performed the first of a handful of dates leading up to the Metal Hammer Full of Hate Tour that kicks off Hamburg Germany February 9th.

BEHEMOTH frontman Nergal had this to say about the sold out shows: "Magick is back, my friends! We have our first 'rebirth' shows under our belt, moreover, both Poznan and Danzig were totally sold out and crowd's reactions went beyond anyone's expectations!

We have a special guest, Krzysztof Azarewicz introducing the band on stage, thanx mate! You are a true friend! Behemoth would like to thank every person that came down and shown their support.

It can't be underrated. We have few more shows to go…and then we're gonna take a deep breath before striking back the European stages in February. This is the ultimate manifest of our unconquerable will! Join us!"

Expect more tour info to be released shortly.

In other BEHEMOTH news; the new music video for the track Lucifer off BEHEMOTH's 2009 release Evangelion can now be seen HERE and an mp3 for the track Summoning of the Ancient Gods off the upcoming reissue Demonica can be found HERE.
