What makes a band truly unique and unforgettable? Obviously there is the music and the songs that for years echo in our minds. This may be followed by a strong, recognizable image or some stunning live performances. While all these factors might just be the case, there is still one more thing worth mentioning, being perhaps the most important factor of all… It’s the honesty, the sincerity, the passion – the thing that transforms bands into legends. And whatever you might try to call it, you will certainly find it in Crowbar - one of the heaviest and most inspiring doom-core groups ever to walk the face of the planet. The band is nowadays considered a living legend of the New Orleans’ metal scene, with each release being a masterpiece of sluggish, extremely heavy doom-core sounds, put together in the darkest form known to man.
Metal Mind Productions presents the exclusive re-releases of Crowbar's two albums - “Odd Fellows Rest” and “Sonic Excess In Its Purest Form”.
“Odd Fellows Rest” (1998)
One of Crowbar’s most extraordinary releases. The album started off with a true Crowbar classic – “Planets Collide” – a slow-paced and extremely melodic tune, which showcased the band’s incredible progress. The rest of the material was kept in the typical Crowbar fashion, with the exceptions of “Scattered Pieces Lay” and “Behind the Black Horizon” (both of which featured melodic dual vocal tracks), as well as two tracks clearly inspired by southern metal: “New Man Born” (sounding like a heavier Down tune) and “Odd Fellows Rest” (comparable to… Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan”!).
New edition includes a hidden bonus track.
“Sonic Excess in Its Purest Form” (2001)
Their seventh album was yet another successful step in the band’s career, bringing eleven tracks of mind-crushing doom-core insanity. Starting off with the ultra slow opener “The Lasting Dose” (considered by many fans a signature song for Crowbar), “Sonic Excess in Its Purest Form” takes the listener through an emotional path of pain and depression. With such highlights as the punkish “Failure To Delay Gratification”, the sorrowful “Thru The Ashes (I’ve Watched You Burn)” and the beautiful instrumental “In Times of Sorrow”, the album became another epic masterpiece in Crowbar’s discography.
Both albums will be available in a new digipak edition, each limited to 1000 copies. Digitally remastered using 24-Bit process, released on a golden disc. The release date is scheduled for 2nd November (Europe only).

Bio
It all started back in 1989, when guitarist and vocalist Kirk Windstein decided to form a band inspired by the sludgy groove of the Melvins and the utmost aggression of Peter Steele’s Carnivore. Windstein teamed-up with Kevin Noonan (guitar), Todd Strange (bass) and Craig Nunenmacher (drums), thus bringing Crowbar to existence, with the intention of crushing anything and anyone in its way. The band (under the moniker The Slugs) released their first demo – “Slugs” – in April 1990, at that time promoting themselves as ‘The Heaviest Band in the World’ (this sentence was to be found on a poster advertising a show in New Orleans in 1990, when Crowbar opened for Exhorder and Wrathchild America). Such a bold statement could have seemed a bit over-the-top for a bunch of debutants, but the band soon proved that these were more than mere fightin’ words. With the ’91 release of their debut album called “Obedience Thru Suffering”, Crowbar once and for all silenced all the naysayers - the LP brought an overwhelming dose of deep sludge metal mixed with crushing hardcore influences, resulting at being heavy as all hell. Combining the most prominent features of the groups which influenced him, Windstein managed to create his own unique style, recognizable for many years to come… One of the European music magazines dubbed this style ‘doom-core’, and as Kirk himself admits, it’s by far the best-fitting definition of Crowbar’s music.
After signing up with Pavement Records, Crowbar released a self-titled follow-up to the debut record in 1993, once again delivering a solid amount of harsh, gloomy material. The album was recorded with a new guitarist, Matt Thomas (who replaced Kevin Noonan), and produced by none other than Pantera’s Phil Anselmo, who managed to fully bring out all the best that the group had to offer – each of the ten tracks found on “Crowbar” reeks with a muddy New Orleans vibe and crushes the listener with an extremely raw and heavy sound. The album was quite well promoted at that time – after seeing the video for “All I Had (I Gave)” on MTV’s “Headbanger’s Ball” and “Beavis and Butthead”, many metal fans decided to pick up this CD. “Crowbar” to this day remains one of the band’s best and most honored releases. Songs such as “Holding Nothing”, “Existence Is Punishment”, “I Have Failed” and the phenomenal cover version of Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter” showcase the sheer essence of doom-core, conjoining slow and heavy music with some truly dark and depressive lyrics by Windstein, who screams them out with genuine grief and pain.
In 1994 the band recorded a live EP entitled “Live + 1”, which was a perfect foretaste of the amazing atmosphere witnessed on Crowbar’s shows. The release did not however weaken the fans’ anticipation for a next full-length album, therefore on May 23rd 1995 “Time Heals Nothing” hit the stores, bringing an even more intense set of sluggish and heavy tunes. This time the music was a bit faster, revealing more hardcore-influenced ideas. But the overall heaviness remained untouched – Crowbar still delivered a crushingly overwhelming sound, with songs such as “Through a Wall of Tears”, “A Perpetual Need” and the title track proving that the band has no competition when it comes to doom-core. For many fans, “Time Heals Nothing” remains Crowbar’s most characteristic album, perfectly defining all the group’s main ingredients, which form their unique style.
Unfortunately after the album’s release drummer Craig Nunenmacher left the group and Crowbar’s next offering, “Broken Glass” (released in 1996 by Bulletproof Records), was recorded with Jimmy Bower behind the drum kit. The year 1998 brought one of Crowbar’s most extraordinary releases yet – “ Odd Fellows Rest” – recorded with a new guitarist, Sammy Pierre Duet (ex-Acid Bath).
In 2000 Crowbar released their sixth LP – “Equilibrium” – with drummer Sid Montz. The seventh opus – “Sonic Excess in Its Purest Form” – was recorded in a new line-up (with Jeff Okoneski on bass and Tony Costanza on drums) and saw the light of day on August 21st, 2001. The album was yet another successful step in the band’s career, bringing eleven tracks of mind-crushing doom-core insanity.
The group released their eighth and so far last LP – “Lifesblood for the Downtrodden” – in 2005, featuring Rex Brown on bass and the return of Craig Nunenmacher on drums. This offering was followed by a long-awaited live DVD entitled “Live: With Full Force”.
Over the years the band suffered many line-up changes, but its founder and mastermind Kirk Windstein makes sure that each of Crowbar’s releases lives up to the breathtaking debut. His musical skills helped Phil Anselmo to create one of his most known and respected projects – Down. This experience brought Windstein a lot of acclaim, not to mention a strong alliance with some of the most talented musicians in Louisiana… Kirk’s latest project is Kingdom of Sorrow – a modern sounding sludge metal supergroup, featuring vocalist Jamie Jasta (Hatebreed), guitarist Steve Gibb (Black Label Society) and drummer Derek Kerswill (Shadows Fall, Unearth).

GOATWHORE Hits Billboard Top 200 Chart with New Album ‘Carving Out the Eyes of God’!
Los Angeles, CA – July 2, 2009 – New Orleans, LA’s sons of American no-frills black metal meets death and roll, GOATWHORE, have just broke the Billboard Top 200 chart with their latest release Carving Out the Eyes of God, coming in at #190! In addition to hitting the Top 200 Chart, Carving Out the Eyes of God also debuted on the Billboard Hard Music chart at #33, the Billboard Top New Artist (Heatseekers) Albums chart at #16, and the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart at #34. GOATWHORE also carved out a spot for themselves on Canada’s charts coming in at #48 on Independent chart and #79 on Hard chart.
BILLBOARD TOP 200 Debut @ #190
Billboard Hard Music Debut @ #33
Billboard Top New Artist (Heatseekers) Albums Debut @ #16
Billboard Top Independent Albums Debut @ #34
About the band:
Emerging from the swamplands of New Orleans, Louisiana — a city rich with urban legends of voodoo curses, ghosts and murder — Goatwhore was formed in 1997 by guitarist Sammy Duet (Acid Bath, Crowbar, Ritual Killer etc.). Their history is a winding one marked by lineup shifts, temporary paralysis, haunted studios, and the survival of one of the five most destructive hurricanes in US history. Influenced by the raw savagery of bands like Venom and Celtic Frost, their unrefined, fuck-all approach to black metal first revealed on the Serenades To The Tides Of Blood demo and expanded upon on the now legendary Eclipse Of Ages Into Black debut nearly a decade ago earned the band instant underground credibility.
Fresh off a successful US tour as direct support to pagan-loving label-mates Amon Amarth, Goatwhore has now teamed up with Abigail Williams for the Conquer & Curse Tour 2009, which will cover over 60 dates throughout North America. Joining the tour will be Daath, Abysmal Dawn and Success Will Write Apocalypse Across The Sky. From there, the band will embark on another US jaunt with Obituary through the fall.
In an oversaturated metal landscape where sub-genres spawn sub-sub-genres and the very definition of “metal” seems blurred by cross-pollinating madness, sacred are the bands who stay true to their roots. Goatwhore spew the sort of sinister, fist-clenching, speaker-searing sound that made metal so forbiddingly enticing in the first place. The year of the ‘Whore is truly upon us! Carving out the Eyes of God was released June 23rd, 2009.
“Their most varied record to date. Songs sear with an old-school, punk propelled urgency that comes from years of Motorhead, Venom, and Hellhammer worship.” 4/5 Revolver Magazine
“the band’s tightest, most guitar-driven offering to date. An unholy smorgasbord of rigid tempo shifts, gargantuan hooks, blasting black mass anthems and Falgoust’s soot and venom snarl…” Decibel Magazine
“The 10 track could make even the most stubborn Nordic black metal fans squirm, as the stabbing and slashing guitars and Ben Falgoust’s dark sermon growling never have sounded better.” The Daily News McKeesport
“GOATWHORE have gone above expectations this time around…destined to be their version of The Blackening by MACHINE HEAD for their genre as they have perfected their art and this album will turn up in many ‘Best Of’ lists for 2009!” perfect 10/10, SMNnews.com
“…one of 2009's purest metal albums, one that could very well end up to be considered the quartet's watershed release…nefariously black and sadistically thrashing in a way that is uniquely GOATWHORE.” Blabbermouth.net
GOATWHORE is:
Ben Falgoust - vocals
Sammy Duet - guitar
Nathan Bergeron - bass
Zack Simmons – drums

GOATWHORE announces ‘Carving Out the Eyes of God’ as the title of their new studio album
New Orleans, LA’s sons of American no-frills black metal, GOATWHORE, have just announced that the title of their fourth full-length album, and second for Metal Blade, will be Carving Out the Eyes of God. For the follow up to 2006’s A Haunting Curse, GOATWHORE headed back to St. Petersburg, FL to record with producer Erik Rutan at Manna Studios with mastering being handled by Alan Douches of West West Side.
Vocalist Ben Falgoust comments on the direction of the new album; “I don't really know how to explain this. I don't want to come off with the typical speech about how this record is our best yet and all of that. I will say that I am quite pleased how it has turned out and all parts relating to it. I feel every member put a great deal of effort into their part of the project. I even feel Erik Rutan busted his ass even more this time to make us feel that we didn't take any steps backwards in the recording and production of this release…I don't even really care what the critics say. I think the end result is basically coming up with something you have put a lot of work into and the satisfaction achieved in completing it. I will say that the new material is ripping metal and we still have that ‘Goatwhore’ sound, whatever that may mean for each individual that enjoys or hates what we do. Just look at it as another step in the evolution of this band. Each person that hears it will have his or her own perception of it. Like it or not, we don't have a say in it. The only thing we can do is just keep writing the way we do and accept the criticism. Doesn't mean we are gonna listen to the criticism and change. Just give it an honest listen and if you dig it, awesome! If you don't, then pass it on to a friend or use it as a new drink coaster.”
Guitarist Sammy Duet had this to add; “Dark, heavy, evil. Erik Rutan did one hell of a job on it. If you don't like it… kiss my ass.”
