![]() Fuck Dell, Fuck Sprint, but Verizon rules! June 16th 2006 06/16/06 So this is kind of a follow up rant to last week’s firestorm against the big huge steaming pile of crap that is Dell computers. You see, I had both my laptop and my cell phone PDA die the same weekend. So since we figured out how to get the laptop back alive (no thanks to Dell’s lack of customer service on their worthless products), we went to find out either how to get my cell phone back alive or how to replace it. Unlike Dell, Verizon does not outsource their customer service to India. Not only that, but they have people that know what the fuck they are talking about. While doing all this insanity I got this one guy on the phone that could start up his own tech support phone service. Not only was he a total geek from Nerdsvile USA, but he was able to dumb it down so his vast knowledge was really helpful. I wish I could find a way to get him all the time, because that guy had some solutions that got me all kinds of excited! Now as the head of a site like this, I like to be connected at all times. So I need internet everywhere I go. Now the phone that just died had what was basically really slow dial up speeds. This new Samsung i730 claims to have broadband. Now I don’t know about that, but it is way faster then it was before. I have been testing out different things, like KNAC.com’s regular free connection. They have a special mobile stream that sounds like terrestrial (standard) radio with really bad reception. My Samsung i700 couldn’t even handle that. My i730 seems to handle the regular one with no problem. So that shows that without a bigger monthly bill, I have one thing that is ten times better. Now for the negatives. The engineers seem to think we want our PDAs to look like cell phones. When you pay that much for something you want to be a little bit of a show off. So they lose points for that. Now I always wanted one of those keyboards for the PDA that was made for typing with your thumbs. Compact, but great for reviewing shows while still at the show and everything is fresh in your mind. They have that, so they gain a point. I also wanted a screen that could be flipped to horizontal for the PDA stuff. They have that! One tiny problem. They keyboard flips out from the side. So unless you want to contort yourself in a very painful shape while using the PDA functions you are pretty much screwed. Now the face seems to like to do things in my pocket more than the old one, but I solve that by flipping the belt clip around backwards. Not sure they meant to have it used that way, but it seems to fit and stay on pretty well. So if only Samsung would ask their high end customers what they would change on the next model they could get me to replace my phone more often. This time I was smart enough to buy the full insurance for $6 a month. So I am not buying another one until they fix these few problems. I want my bigger screen back, I want the keyboard to slide out so the PDA can be used in the horizontal mode (it should switch to horizontal mode automatically when you slide the keyboard out), and I want all of this with Verizon’s top notch customer service. Oh yeah, I also want the media player to have an option so that I can play all the tracks with both the song title and the band name at the same time. Right now it only shows the song title and with a GB card holding about ten albums at a time that means jack shit! PS-I have heard one of the top bands are cheating. Give me proof and win the band of your choice one thousand points! Click here because underdogs RULE!
