![]() Sept 1st 2006 09/01/06 So you all may know that my wife is somewhat of a recluse. It is harder to get her to get out of the house than it is to get me to find a band in the current radio top ten that I like. Most of this is because she hates people. Let’s face it, there are some annoying people at shows. Most of us can ignore the retards and just enjoy the show. Not my wife. So I thought that maybe a bigger show with the nice seats may be more her thing. Then I find out that both Journey & Def Leppard are on the same bill together. Now if there was ever a line up that would make my wife happy, that would be it! Small problem, it took three hours to get to the damn venue. A hour of that was behind this beat up piece of shit Executive brand trailer with their bathroom in the back with no drapes. So we got a full on peep show of some ugly ass people. They even had this wide lens effect going on so everything was enlarged. Mapquest said it was a 53 minute drive, the entire trip. It took longer then that just through the city of Auburn. So we make it just in time to check in with the promoter that has our tickets. I run down to the security pit with the promoter and the guy the venue has hired to take photos for the venue (yup, I was the only press there that I know of with a camera). I took as many photos as I could in the time we had. The best ones are posted here. Now we only get three songs to get our photos in. Now my wife being the awesome woman she is, knows that I have not had a chance to eat any dinner, so she makes sure there is food bought and ready to inhale right after those three songs are done. Since this is her first show, she doesn’t think to wait until between bands. So while the band is playing, I am trying to find her with the food. Not really because I am hungry, but because I know she is stressing out about me being hungry. So all I can understand from her phone call is that she is at the stairs. So that narrows it down to about 20 different places she can be. I guess three of them and start walking back and forth between them. Turns out, she was on the other side of the stage. So I try to get her to forget the food thing because I am missing a show I am supposed to review. I tell her to please not worry about it and meet me at our seats. I get to the seats and start to enjoy the show. One song later I text her to ask if she is lost finding the seats. No answer. A second song later I text her that I am worried. No answer. I text her again that I am getting worried. She sends back a text message that she is in a corner and she is fine. This usually means she is trying to hide the fact that she is stressing like mad, so of course this makes me not able to enjoy the set at all. Journey is a band you want to watch with your significant other. So this blew ass bigtime. Mainly because all I got to do was worry about my wife being miserable and her not just coming to the seats so we can be together. The set ends and I text her to see if she can meet me in front of the main office of the venue. I know there is only one main office and we won’t get lost. I find out she is still holding onto the damn food and that is half of why she wouldn’t come down to the seats and enjoy the show with me! Turns out the food was nasty as hell and is the worst thing at the venue to order. That was something I was curious to try every time I went there, too. I choked it down so my wife would stop stressing about it and maybe we could enjoy the Def Leppard set together at least. It was at this time I learn that she hadn’t eaten dinner that whole time either. She then tells me that the other reason she didn’t meet me at the seats was that she couldn’t find them. Now remember that my wife has never been to a show like this. I think she had been to less than 20 live shows ever and that includes local bands at dive bars! So she didn’t know that the event staff’s main job is to help people find their seats. At a show like Def Leppard that is pretty much their only job! So I tell her the best directions I could and from there to please ask the staff to help her. Before I even get escorted to the security pit to take photos of Def Leppard, she sends me a text message that she is at our seats. I get to the pit and sure enough I see her there (we had really awesome seats). So I end up enjoying this set way more and she ends up having more fun as well. Take a look at my live photos here & my review of the show itself here. The really shitty part was the ride home. Not only does this venue (that holds something like 10 to 20 thousand people) still have the roads of a very small farming community, but they really only have one road out of the fucking place to the freeway! Then you get to the onramp and they have the on ramp to the main freeway “Under Construction” and blocked off. No problem, just go to the next one. It’s blocked off and being ripped a new asshole, too. I swear there were four of them in a row like that. Then the one that was legal to enter, had no markings at all. So we missed that one and end up lost in who knows where. It takes us until 3:30 or so to get home. So that is why my updates are late. Blame it on Washington State D.O.T. because they are not smart enough to only close down one on ramp at a time. I have not given up on getting the wife to enjoy live music. She did enjoy the show and smiled several times during Def Leppard’s set. If only we could afford a helicopter to avoid the shitty traffic. On the other hand, this was her first time at a big show. You remember how your first time is. It’s awkward, you don’t know what you are doing, and it never turns out that great. So hopefully I can convince her to give it one more try. Now that the rant is done, I want to say that the diet and exercise thing is doing just fine still. I just keep forgetting to weigh myself in the morning. So I hope to have that info next week for those that care. Sorry for the extra long rant but I had to get this shit off my chest so my review isn’t cluttered with it. Not sure what the rant is about. Traffic or the trials of getting my wife to enjoy live music. Maybe both, but at least it is a rant this week, eh? PS-Everyone vote for Necrobeast! Yeah, that was my old band, but for every week Necrobeast is number one I will post one song from one of my two albums for FREE download. Click here because I RULE (in a humble kind of way)!
