This is the first full length for this Irish band. December is a little difficult to place exactly where it belongs in the music genres. Hard vocals are used throughout this album. The music however has very little to do with either Black or Death Metal, sounding more like a mix of Heavy, Power and Thrash, although there are a few passages in there that border on Black Metal, the very old school kind that's quite close to Thrash.
It's obvious that since their first demo they have stated their identity and have evolved accordingly. We can find tracks included to every former release. For example, one of the best tracks of their album, “Dread”, appeared for the first time in their first demo “Shade”. Or “Wake”, which is the second track of “December” and is at the same time one of the most remarkable tracks of the album.
This band would probably benefit from the use of a different vocal style, since the music is mostly some raw Heavy/Thrash that could probably fit well with some good Thrash vocals - but then again, it's hard to say. Sure thing is, some people who might like this music may pass because of the vocal style. It does work however, as the low whispers do add something to this dark and gloomy atmosphere without overshadowing the instruments (the production does a good job of screwing them to some extent anyway.)
I think that regarding the presentation of their songs, I guess the only thing that diminishes the quality of the album is the production, which I would say is a little ragged and injures the whole effort. I think that this kind of music needs a sharper production, in order to be elevated.
