I’ve been to quite a few Danzig shows and I must say that this one is my favorite. Being a long time fan and knowing how the albums have progressively been getting worse, not to mention the last show I saw was a bit lacking, I totally expected a lot less than what I saw. Glenn started on time at 10:00 which was a nice addition to the usual situations.

The light dimmed and the instrumental song “Wotans Procession” started playing. The blue lights came on and you could see the guitarist, bassist and drummer amidst two eight foot tall statues that were the classic Danzig skull with what looked like octopus legs coming out of the bottom to make it look like some sort of cthulhu framed by a circle. Next the crowd goes wild as Glenn Danzig runs out on stage and breaks into “Skin Carver”. Glenn is running and head banging all over the stage and putting a tremendous amount of energy into every verse. He follows that song with “Satan’s Child”, “I luciferi”, “Black Mass” and “Circle of Snakes”. At this point you can tell Glenn is pissed about something and suspect it’s due to a lot of feedback. Halfway through “1000 Devils Reign” Glenn throws the microphone toward the back and walks off stage while the rest of the band finishes the song. After the song is over Glenn comes out cursing and says “I’m fucking sorry this fucking sorry fucking sound system sucks hugh fucking monkey dick”. Then Glenn turns to a guy standing off stage and says “You wanna come out here and fucking explain to these fucking people why their concert sounds like fucking shit?”. Next they start with one of my old favorites and a song I haven’t heard him play for quite a while. It’s “How the Gods Kill” and even though the feedback squeals between each word, Glenn makes it sound great. That song was followed by two older favorites which were “Not of this World” and “Her Black Wings”.

Now Glenn starts to talk which leads up to him calling out Doyle. Once again the crowd goes wild and they start the Misfits set with “20 Eyes”. They play “Astro Zombies”, “Skulls”, “Mommy can I go out and kill Daddy”(Glenn said he changed the lyrics), “Earth AD”, “Last Caress” and ended that set with “We are 138”. Through the whole set Glenn was exerting more energy than I have ever seen him put out and that’s saying quite a lot. The lights go out and a siren sounds for what feels like five to ten minutes which kicks off “Bringer of Death”. After all the lyrical parts of the song are done they extend the song while the guitarist and bass player take their turns in the spot light. They finish the set with “Twist of Cain” and the very popular “Mother”. The lights go out and of course everyone is chanting “Dan-zig” to instigate the already rehearsed encore. Glenn comes out and sings “Dirty Black Summer” and then calls Doyle out for the Misfits classic “Die, Die My Darling”. If you get a chance I strongly recommend this show.
