First of all I’m going to start by saying I can now see why 10 Years has a crazy loyal fan base. Because they are good, that’s why. I’ve found a lot of bands to be so much better represented live rather than on an album, and 10 Years is another one of those bands.

It probably helps that Neumo’s is quite an intimate venue, in order for the band and the crowd to exchange energy. This was my first time at Neumo’s, and I think it’s a pretty cool place. Well, once we figured out the maze of the box office, then the second set of doors away from the box office, then the other door where you get a stamp, then the stairs up to the bar, then the trek to the back corner to the other stairs down to the venue, that is.

The sound was really good if you stood in the middle of the floor somewhere, but moving toward either side of the stage you’re gonna get blasted in the ears by some giant speakers. Fortunately for me, I found a great place to get some photos, but I did also try to get around a bit for some different angles. People were really cool about letting me get in front of them quickly. There was just a good vibe in the venue. I wasn’t afraid some hXc kid was gonna kick me in the noggin or anything. Everyone seemed to just want to rock out to some 10 Years.

10 Years was definitely on it for this show. They played every song tighter than a dolphin’s butthole. Singer Jesse Hasek spent a good amount of time talking to the crowd, and he was really great at smiling and touching hands with the fans and things like that. He made a lot of people feel special by just being himself. The bass player did some kick ass backup screams. They covered most of the songs from the album “The Autumn Effect.” We even got to hear a bit of the story behind the name “The Autumn Effect.” I guess it all started out as a dream that Jesse had, and he wrote it all down as soon as he woke up. He then turned it into an art sculpture, and then even further explored those emotions by naming a song, and then the album after this whole dream.

They saved “Wasteland” for last. That is clearly their hit. They recognize that, and they do a great job of playing a song that they may be starting to get tired of by exploring it just a little further and letting guitarist Matt Wantland come out and do some emotional plucking at the beginning.

All in all I think this was a great show. I am much more of a fan now that I’ve seen this band live. If you’re thinking about checking out their CD, by all means, go ahead. But I highly recommend hitting up a show of theirs next time they are in town. You will feel wonderful afterward.
