Tuesday December 11th 2007 Seattle, WA at Studio Seven Remember the Muppets? Remember the drummer they called Animal? Well, just like Pinocchio, they made him into a real boy finally. Turns out he’s a Mexican. Who woulda thunk it eh? Yeah, he plays for a band signed to Metal Blade called Fueled By Fire. He goes under the name of Carlos so no one would know it’s him, but look at the photos below and the secret will be out. Sorry Animal, but your fans need to know it’s really you! The rest of the band is pretty damn good too. A bunch of kids way too young to play classic thrash as well as they do. Now there has been a line up rotation since they recorded Spread The Fire. Turns out the singer quit on them. So guitarist Rick took over the mic and they brought in a kid who may be very shy when you meet him, but can shred like a serial killer on crack when he hits the stage. The two of them together pull off a twin guitar attack that would make seasoned veterans in the thrash world tear up with joy. Anthony the bassist holds down the bottom end as well as anyone twice his age. So where the original band sounded pretty close to the Bay Area, this new line up is a cross between that Bay Area sound and the German thrash of band’s like Destruction or Sodom. So 25% vintage Slayer, 25% Death Angel, 25% Destruction, and 25% Sodom, and you have a pretty good idea of this new more visceral line up. I loved the Bay Area thrash style of the cd, but this is good too. The club was sadly very empty, but the ones who saw it will tell you that you missed one great night of thrash! Sure there was some standard local metal band’s I had never heard of in the first few slots. I think there was three of them and they were all what I call “Not ready for prime time”. The last two band’s on the bill though were a double dose of some grade A old school! Scarecrow had a very vintage Nuclear Assault sound and just like the headliner, put on an amazing show (more on them at a later time). For a crowd of maybe 25 people they both played like it was a packed house of several hundred. So if you are from western Washington and missed this show, please go get ‘poser’ tattooed on your forehead now. There is a rumor going around that they will play somewhere around Portland for a New Years Eve show and play western Washington either right before or after. I hope before because I will be off work. Did this show Rock My Monkey? More then any show I have seen this year. I had a blast and you all missed it. Damn do you suck!
